X launches account verification based on government ID X, previously known as Twitter, has introduced a government ID-based account verification system for its paid users. This move aims to combat impersonation on the platform. Partnering with Israel-based Au10tix for identity verification, the data may be stored for up to 30 days. However, this verification is not available in the EU, EEA, and the UK, likely due to strict data protection regulations. The ID-based verification currently offers limited benefits, but X has plans to expand its utility in the future, such as expediting the review process for checkmarks. The primary goal is to enhance platform security and reduce impersonation.
